Participant FAQ's
| I avoid physical activities because I am not athletic. Will I be embarrassed? |
| Leadership Training involves learning how to evaluate a situation, determine a plan of action, and implement that plan to the best of your ability. Athletic ability, while nice to have, is not a prerequisite to Leadership Training.
|
| I have never been backpacking and tend to walk slowly. What if I am slowing down the group? |
| In a group of 8-10 hikers, there is always variability in the hiking speed of individuals. The ability of a group to find and maintain a hiking pace that maximizes enjoyment while meeting shared group objectives is a learned team skill that requires experience and trust. Learning to voice your concerns regarding the pace and being supportive of others with concerns is more important than how fast or slow you walk. |
| What should I expect to get from this experience? |
| Participants should expect to learn about leadership and teamwork, and have a lot of fun. If you are not experiencing all of these, you should talk to your Instructor. |
| What if I don’t like my team? |
| While compromise and sacrifice are a necessary ingredient in team building, there are times when differences within a group are so great that moving individuals to different teams would make sense. When necessary, this will be handled in a sensitive and non-judgmental manner, with the goal of enhancing leadership development for all participants. |
