Outdoor Leadership Training
General Information
For youth entering grades 9 and up. Participants must have completed the Introductory OLT program or have camping experience. This program may run anywhere from 3 to 7 days, depending upon the age and experience level of the group. It may include camping out for 2 nights near an AMC lodge, or backpacking for days, carrying all gear and camping out in remote sites and AMC huts.
Training Topics
In addition to leadership training, participants will also receive outdoor technical skills training. Depending upon the group experience level, that training may include gear management, campsite setup, backpacking-stove use, leave-no-trace backpacking principles, map and compass use, thermal management, weather monitoring, first aid and more.
Meals
Beginning with dinner on Friday night, all meals and snacks will be provided. Depending on the age of the group, participants will take responsibility for preparation and cleanup of some or all meals.
Lodging
Groups sleep in sleeping bags in tents. Depending upon the age of the group, campsites may be near a lodge or in the wilderness. Older, more experienced groups may spend a few nights in AMC huts, taking advantage of bunks and meals.
Equipment
J.U.M.P. has equipment privileges with the AMC Youth Opportunities Program. Participants can borrow clothing and equipment, such as boots, rain gear, tents and backpacks.
Cost
Dependent upon the length of the trip. The 3-day trip is $249 per participant. Includes transportation, food, lodging, use of clothing and equipment, pictures from the trip and a certificate of completion.
