Introductory Outdoor Leadership Training
General Information
For youth entering grades 6 and up. This program consists of three days of hiking in the White Mountains of New Hampshire, and two nights in an Appalachian Mountain Club lodge.
Itinerary
On Friday morning, participants meet, perform clothing and gear checks and travel together to the lodge. If ample time, there will be a short hike before dinner. Saturday's activity is a day hike to a nearby mountain, with training in relevant skills. On Sunday, there is a half-day hike, followed by packing up, debriefing and traveling home. Participants return by 5:00 pm.
Meals
Beginning with dinner on Friday night, all meals and snacks will be provided. Meals are provided by AMC staff and served in a common area. Pack lunches for hikes will be provided. Participants should have breakfast before leaving on Friday, and should carry a bag lunch for the trip to the lodge.
Lodging
Participants will stay at one of several Appalachian Mountain Club lodges in New Hampshire's White Mountains. Lodges are heated and have bathroom and shower facilities. Participants sleep in individual beds in shared bunk rooms.
Equipment
J.U.M.P. has equipment privileges with the AMC Youth Opportunities Program. Participants can borrow clothing and equipment, such as boots, rain gear and backpacks.
Cost
$249 per participant. Includes transportation, food, lodging, use of clothing and equipment, pictures from the trip and a certificate of completion.
